Downtown Doesn’t Stop at Broadway
Most visitors experience downtown Nashville as six blocks of Lower Broadway, then wonder why every restaurant has a two-hour wait and a cover band playing at conversation-killing volume. Locals know the trick: keep walking north.
Fourth Avenue runs straight up from the honky-tonks, past the Capitol, and into Germantown — the oldest neighborhood in the city, and still the quietest corner of downtown. It’s Victorian brick, restored storefronts, a state park, a farmers’ market, and a minor-league ballpark that locals will argue is nicer than some major-league ones. It is roughly a mile from the neon. It feels like ten.
Social Cantina sits at 820 4th Avenue, at the north end of that walk, directly across the sidewalk from First Horizon Park. Eat First. The Gate Is Right There.
First Horizon Park is one of the few ballparks in the country where the pregame plan is genuinely walkable from a real dinner — not a concourse hot dog eaten standing up. The right-field entrance is across the sidewalk from our patio.
Two things worth knowing before you go in: the ballpark is cashless and clear-bag only, and gates open one hour before first pitch most nights — 80 minutes on Saturdays, when there’s live music under the guitar scoreboard. So the last hour before a game is dead time you may as well spend sitting down.
Which makes the math easy: park once, eat at a table, walk over when the gates open, and leave the car exactly where it is until the ninth.

5:00 — Park once
There are roughly 6,000 parking spaces within a half-mile of 820 4th Avenue, free and paid. On a game night, the lots closest to the gate go first. Come a little early, leave the car, and don’t think about it again.
5:15 — Sit down while it’s still happy hour
Happy hour runs 3 to 6, Monday through Friday. On a weeknight game, that window closes about the time the gates open — which is either good planning or the best-timed coincidence in Germantown.
5:20 — Order like you have somewhere to be
Chips and guac, a round of tacos, esquites for the table. Tuesday home games are the value play: it’s $3 taco night, and Tuesday is one of the quieter nights on the block.
6:00 — Walk 40 yards
Gates open. Settle up, cross the sidewalk, and you’re in your seat with twenty minutes to spare instead of circling a lot with the radio pregame on.
After the last out
Day games and early weekend games let out with plenty of runway — the kitchen is open until 9 Sunday through Thursday and 10 on Friday and Saturday. Come back for one more round while the lot empties out.

Eat North, Then Head South
Here’s the honest advice for a night at the Ryman, Bridgestone, or anywhere on Broadway: eat before, not after.
A 7:30 curtain means the restaurants within three blocks of the venue are slammed from 5:30 on, and you’ll pay a premium to eat in a hurry. Start twenty minutes north instead. Happy hour lands 3 to 6. You get a table without a wait, a margarita that isn’t served in a plastic cup, and a downhill walk down 4th Avenue with the Capitol lit up on your right — or a rideshare that’s short and cheap because you’re starting outside the surge zone.
Coming back the other way works too, as long as you know the clock: the kitchen closes at 9 Sunday through Thursday and 10 on Friday and Saturday. An early show or a matinee lets out in time. A 10:30 encore does not — that’s a Broadway problem, and Broadway is welcome to it.

The Free Half-Day Loop
If you have people in town and a few hours to fill, this is the best-value walk in Nashville: four genuinely good stops, all within about ten minutes of each other, and not one of them charges admission.
Do it in this order and it ends with lunch.
Bicentennial Capitol Mall
An 11-acre state park behind the Capitol with a 200-foot granite map of Tennessee you can walk across and a World War II memorial. Its 95-bell carillon — one bell per county — rings on the quarter hour and plays a full Tennessee song at the top of every hour.
Nashville Farmers’ Market
Open 8 to 6, seven days a week, right on the park’s west edge. The Market House is a full food hall with local shops and an international grocery; the open-air farm sheds are fullest on weekends.
Tennessee State Museum
Free admission, and one of the most underrated indoor hours downtown — especially in August or a rainstorm. Open Tuesday through Saturday 10 to 5 and Sunday 1 to 5. Closed Mondays, so plan around it.
Lunch on 4th
Walk back toward the ballpark and finish at Social Cantina — midday lunch deals, a patio, and the Greenway right behind it if anybody still has legs left. Saturday brunch runs 11 to 2.

Happy hour is Monday through Friday, 3 to 6. Brunch is Saturday, 11 to 2. There’s a rotating taco of the month that’s worth ordering on principle, and a private event space that seats 35 or holds 50 for a cocktail-style party — which, on a block this close to the ballpark, is a very easy invitation for people to say yes to. Yes, There’s Parking
This is the part of downtown Nashville where parking is still a solved problem. There are roughly 6,000 spaces within a half-mile walk of 820 4th Avenue, a mix of free street parking and paid lots and garages. On a Sounds night the closest lots fill first, so arriving in the happy-hour window buys you a better space and a cheaper margarita at the same time.
Not driving? Music City Central is about a ten-minute walk south, and the walk up 4th Avenue from Lower Broadway takes about twenty minutes on flat sidewalk the whole way — a genuinely pleasant walk in the evening, and the fastest way to leave the crowd behind without leaving downtown.

Yes. It is about a mile from the Ryman Auditorium and about 1.2 miles from Bridgestone Arena and Lower Broadway — roughly a 20 to 25 minute walk straight up 4th Avenue, flat the entire way, past the State Capitol. A rideshare takes about five minutes and usually costs less than one starting inside the Broadway crowd.
