Where to actually go

Downtown Nashville Is Not Short on Tacos. It’s Short on Good Ones.

Lower Broadway will sell you a taco. It will be $9, it will arrive in a paper boat next to a plastic cup of something blue, and it will have been assembled by somebody watching the clock. That is the trade you make for standing in the middle of the honky-tonks.

The alternative is a mile north. Fourth Avenue runs straight up from Broadway, past the State Capitol, and into Germantown — the oldest neighborhood in Nashville, and the only part of downtown where dinner is not competing with a PA system. Social Cantina sits at 820 4th Avenue, directly across the sidewalk from the ballpark, and it is the only Mexican restaurant in Germantown proper.

Eleven tacos on the menu. Corn or flour, your call, every time. Here is the whole lineup, what to order when, and the one day of the week you should plan around.

  • First Horizon Park (Nashville Sounds) Across the sidewalk
  • Cumberland River Greenway Steps from the door
  • Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park 7-minute walk
  • Nashville Farmers’ Market About a 10-minute walk
  • Ryman Auditorium About a mile · 20-minute walk
  • Bridgestone Arena & Lower Broadway About 1.2 miles · 25-minute walk

Every Taco on the Nashville Menu

Order them à la carte, or take three on a plate with cilantro-lime rice and bacon charro beans. Choice of corn or flour tortilla on every single one — see the Nashville menu for current pricing.

Classic Tacos

The straightforward ones. Three or four ingredients, done properly.

Chicken Tinga GF

Tinga marinated chicken, tomatillo crema, tropical pico.

Carnitas

Citrus marinated pork, salsa verde, pico de gallo, cilantro.

Americano GF

Seasoned ground beef, romaine, mixed cheese, pico de gallo.

Pork Belly

Pork belly, Korean BBQ sauce, pico de gallo, pickled red onion, cotija cheese.

Signature Tacos

The ones the kitchen actually shows off with.

Carne Asada GF

Grilled steak, grilled peppers and onions, chimichurri, cotija cheese.

Hot Honey Fried Chicken

Sriracha hot honey fried chicken, mango and red cabbage slaw, avocado ranch.

Shrimp and Street Corn GF

Fried shrimp, sriracha crema, esquites corn, cotija cheese, sriracha, cilantro.

Shrimp Fiesta

Seasoned and grilled shrimp, guacamole, arugula, pineapple habanero crema, tropical pico.

Chorizo

Savory chorizo, crispy potatoes, cilantro-lime rice, mixed cheese, fresh cilantro, adobo crema.

Fried Mushroom

Crispy portabella mushrooms, fresh cabbage, roasted corn and poblano salsa, tomatillo crema.

Fried Avocado VEG

Crispy avocado, romaine, adobo crema, pico de gallo.

Two vegetarian options, and neither is an afterthought. The fried avocado and the fried portabella are both built as real tacos rather than a meat taco with the meat removed — which, in downtown Nashville, is genuinely hard to find.

Every Tuesday

Taco Tuesday in Downtown Nashville

Classic tacos drop to $3 every Tuesday. It runs as a daily special rather than a happy-hour pour, and between 3 and 6 it overlaps with happy hour — which is the window worth aiming for.

$3

Classic Tacos

All four classics, every Tuesday. Corn or flour, same as always.

$10

Don Julio Margaritas

The same Tuesday special, alongside the tacos. The reason Tuesday gets busy around six.

$2

Lunazul, 3–6pm

Happy hour overlaps Tuesday. Stack it and the math stops making sense in your favor.

The Tuesday move: arrive between 3 and 6, when happy hour is running on top of the taco special. Three classic tacos and a Lunazul comes in under the price of one Broadway cocktail.

The Quesabirria, and the One That Changes Monthly

Two more worth knowing about, both filed under entrées rather than tacos, which means people miss them.

Quesabirria Tacos — three of them, slow-cooked barbacoa beef and melted cheese, griddled, with a cup of consommé for dipping and rice and bacon charro beans on the side. If you have been hunting birria tacos in Nashville, this is the plate.

Then there’s the Taco of the Month, which is exactly what it sounds like — a one-off the kitchen runs for four weeks and then retires. It changes on the first. There is no way to find out what it is except to ask, which is the point.

Four ways in

When Nashville Eats These

  1. Before a Sounds game

The First Horizon Park gate is across the sidewalk. Three tacos and a beer, then walk twenty yards to your seat. No shuttle, no parking twice.

  2. Weekday lunch

The Two Taco Plate — gringo beef, carnitas or tinga chicken — comes with rice and beans or chips and salsa and a soft drink. The Capitol and the state office buildings are a short walk south.

  3. Before Broadway

Eat north, walk the mile down 4th, and arrive at the Ryman or Bridgestone already fed. Broadway is a better night when you are not queuing for food in it.

  4. Straight to the couch

Order online for pickup on the way home. Tacos travel better than most things on a Mexican menu, especially with the tortilla kept separate.

The downtown Nashville question

Yes, There’s Parking

Roughly 6,000 parking spaces sit within a half-mile walk of 820 4th Avenue, free and paid. Compared with circling Lower Broadway for twenty minutes and then paying $40 to a man with a folding sign, it is the quiet argument for eating in Germantown.

Music City Central, the downtown bus hub, is about a ten-minute walk if you would rather skip the car entirely. On Sounds nights, come early — the closest lots fill outward from the stadium.

Taco Questions We Get a Lot

Where can I get the best tacos in downtown Nashville?

Germantown, at the north end of downtown. Social Cantina is at 820 4th Avenue, about a mile north of Lower Broadway and directly across the sidewalk from First Horizon Park. It is the only Mexican restaurant in Germantown proper, with eleven tacos on the menu plus quesabirria and a rotating Taco of the Month.

When is Taco Tuesday in Nashville?

Every Tuesday. Classic tacos are $3 and Don Julio margaritas are $10, listed as daily specials rather than happy-hour pours. Happy hour runs Sunday through Thursday from 3pm to 6pm, so the 3–6 window on a Tuesday stacks both.

What kinds of tacos do you have?

Four classics — chicken tinga, carnitas, americano and pork belly. Seven signatures — carne asada, hot honey fried chicken, shrimp and street corn, shrimp fiesta, chorizo, fried mushroom and fried avocado. Every taco comes with your choice of corn or flour tortilla, and quesabirria tacos are available as an entrée with consommé.

Do you have vegetarian tacos?

Yes, two. The fried avocado taco with romaine, adobo crema and pico de gallo, and the fried portabella mushroom taco with cabbage, roasted corn and poblano salsa and tomatillo crema. Both are built as their own tacos rather than as substitutions.

Where can I get birria tacos in Nashville?

Our quesabirria tacos come three to a plate — slow-cooked barbacoa beef with melted cheese and a side of consommé for dipping, served with cilantro-lime rice and bacon charro beans. They are listed under entrées rather than in the taco section of the menu.

Can I get tacos before a Nashville Sounds game?

Yes. The First Horizon Park gate is directly across the sidewalk from the restaurant, so you can eat and walk over without moving your car. Arriving early on game nights also means parking in the closer lots, which fill outward from the stadium.
